Introduced as part of Chord Electronics’ 30th-anniversary celebrations, ULTIMA 3 brings the topology of the flagship ULTIMA amplifier to a 480-watt monoblock design. Replacing the SPM 1400 MKII in the Full Size range, it combines fully balanced circuitry with proprietary Chord MOSFETs, Class AB sliding bias and a high-frequency switch-mode power supply. Redesigned to John Franks’ latest aesthetic, ULTIMA 3 features a precision CNC-machined aluminium fascia with a substantial 28 mm-thick front panel. A spherical polycarbonate power button illuminates to indicate standby and operation, while dimmable feature lighting and an included top light ring complement the solid aluminium chassis. Cooling is by convection. Available in Jett Black or Argent Silver, ULTIMA 3 provides balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connections, with both inverted and non-inverted inputs. High-quality loudspeaker terminals support bi-wiring, while a 12 V trigger input and C19-type IEC mains connection complete the rear panel.
