Amplification

The MOON 461 is an analogue power amplifier designed to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the signal from your preamplifier. The most powerful model in the Compass Collection, it combines substantial output with low distortion and stable performance across a wide range of loudspeakers, maintaining transparency, dynamic expression and control even under demanding conditions. At its heart lies MOON’s proprietary Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier architecture, MDCA, originally developed for the flagship North Collection. Two dedicated MOON Hybrid Power modules, one for each channel, provide stable, low-noise power. This dual-mono arrangement improves channel separation, reduces crosstalk and optimises current delivery, particularly into low-impedance loads. Output reaches 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 300 watts per channel into 4 ohms, or 450 watts into 8 ohms in bridged mono mode. A rear-panel switch offers Stereo, Bridged Mono and Bi-Amping Mono configurations, allowing the amplifier to adapt to different system requirements. Bi-Amping Mono enables separate amplification of a loudspeaker’s low- and high-frequency sections. A black chassis, sandblasted aluminium side panels available in black or silver, and clean architectural lines carry the distinctive Compass Collection aesthetic, with proportions designed for elegant integration into racks, furniture and dedicated listening spaces. Rather than imposing a sonic character of its own, the 461 is conceived to preserve musical structure, fine detail and dynamic expression, from the most delicate passages to the most demanding frequencies. Paired with the MOON 491 network player and preamplifier, it forms the highest-performing system in the Compass Collection.
