Created for exceptional high-end audio systems and their most demanding loudspeakers, ULTIMA is a mono power amplifier that marks a defining achievement in Chord Electronics’ 30-year history. Its entirely new circuit topology combines advanced dual-feed-forward error correction, developed from the work of Dr Malcolm J. Hawksford and refined by Bell Labs’ Bob Cordell, with John Franks’ sophisticated ultra-high-frequency power supply concepts. At its heart are 64 proprietary MOSFET power devices, supported by highly refined, ultra-low-distortion, high-voltage circuitry. Operating at 300 volts per microsecond, with advanced feed-forward and feedback compensation techniques, ULTIMA delivers 780 watts into 8 ohms and up to 2,500 watts into 2 ohms. Peak output current exceeds 500 amperes, bringing formidable reserves to musical transients for extraordinary dynamics, fidelity and musicality. Fully balanced circuitry, Class AB sliding-bias operation and a high-frequency switch-mode power supply are housed within a solid aluminium chassis. Convection cooling, balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs in both inverted and non-inverted configurations, and a 12V trigger input complete the design, while dimmable feature lighting and an included top light ring provide a distinctive finishing touch.
